Hi guys , Im building my first system ,im going to be using a z97 board and im planning to get a 16gb 8x2 kit and I just have a few questions before I go ahead and buy them.

1) The board that i`ll be using will have 4 slots for the memory , it says " 4 x DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory .. Dual channel memory architecture.." , does that mean its going to run at dual channel mode with 4 sticks?

2) The ram kit that i`ll be buying is an 8x2 combo , I would get the 8x4 but budget is an issue right now, would it cause any problem like compatibility issue of some sort if i use 2pcs 8x2 kit of the exact same model instead of going for the 8x4?

Thanks in advance guys :D

You'll be right with 2 x 8gb now then another 2 x 8gb of identical ram later.

As long as the one you get later on matches the specs of the one you already have, it'll be fine.

It may or may not work, any time you mix DRAM even of the same exact model it can be and often is problematic, Especially when mixing brands, timings, freqs etc and also with large quantities of DRAM... DRAM is sold in sets where the sticks are tested to work together, 4sticks set often costs more than two 2 stick sets because it's harder to find 4 sticks that will all play together nice. Also XMP is programmed by the packaged set i.e. a 2 stick set of DRAM may need an advanced timings of for the tRFC of 208 where a 4 stick set may need a tRFC of 278............all you need do is glance through the forums here and elsewhere to see folks having problems with mixing sets of DRAM
