Hard disk problems, Clicking disks. CAN the Disk Configuration information be restored on hard disk ???
I ran into, multiple disk 'crash' problems (different systems) where the boot process often could not find the disk any more and the device starts Clicking(Click of dead).
I know the only sollution is a "Backup". But investigating the problem I remarked something odd. And I'm looking mainly for knowledge, and possibly a way to recover more data.
So you can eventualy refer me, But please only to relevant info not the genereral stuff.
As I consider non BIOS connecting disks(no info in startup) as trash, I have a whole stack of them by now IDE/sata/scsi ....
I noticed, every once and a while You can still see them connecting to the BIOS. Esspecialy after trying the refrigerator solution.
I often noticed, an odd Device name, as I'm using information maagement programs is see corrupted data in the information management part of the disk.
Device name = corrupt
device configuration ( sectors/blocks ....) being corrupted as 0 or -1 or ....)
with those configuration values it seems only logical, to me, that the device starts clicking(goes to the impossible location... hits a boundery and reset's)
As this resetting process takes for ever there is no time to look at the host bios and report anything to the Bios/hosting PC.
As i get through, the data on the disk itself seems fully accessable intact and read /writtable (block edit tool) so electronicaly and physicaly nothing seems wrong.
eccept for the configuration information....
All the symthoms seem to be explained by this theory. BUT: I can not find a way to reset the configuration to reset the situaton.
Is there anyone who can help me on how/tool/possibility? .... to reset that information clearly stored somewhere on the disk.
as general programs can read this data; is this a per supplier setting ??? can it be rewritten or is it to be baked from the factory only.
is it located on a commenly agreed location ? can it be altered ??? where is it ?
restoring the info completely or partualy would at least give me insight, potentialy help myself and others to recover more disks
All remarks welcome!
