As the title says, I am swapping over to the blue side, seeing as the haswell refresh just came about! I'm also taking this opportunity to change over to mATX.

I'm thinking of getting an i5, for good gaming performance. I don't need i7 features like hyper threading as I will only be using my rig for gaming and web browsing. I'm stuck between the 4570/4590 and the 4670/4690. Will the extra money be worth 0.2Ghz? Also, where I live, retailers charge around $10-15 extra for haswell refresh, not sure if the 0.1Ghz justifies the price increase.
I can also wait a bit until the 4690K arrives, however I'm not sure if I'll be bothered to overclock.

For my motherboard, I'm stuck between:
MSI Z97M Gaming, retailing around $145 (where I live)
Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5, for around $132
Or the Asus Maximus VII Gene for just over $200
Right now I'm a bit lenient towards the Msi z97, because of all it's features, it's aesthetics and it's price point. The gigabyte board may be cheaper but it doesn't have a case badge :)

Budget is not an issue, however I'de obviously love to save as much as possible, for a possible ram upgrade in the future =)

Simply Wait for the devil's canyon 4690K to come to stores As it is being launched to satisfy customers so that they don't think they are old when broadwell comes !

Don't upgrade now. Better wait for broadwell and upgrade then. Meanwhile build your budget for the ram upgrade as well.

I'm not sure if I can wait though. I'll be heading off to Canada for uni and going matx makes my life a lot easier.
Will the 4690k overclock well? I've seen the 4790k overclock all the way up to 5-5.5Ghz but heard nothing of he 4690k

Yes this devil's canyon series is aimed at overclockers. So don't worry . It can be overclocked!
So i5 4690k is worth waiting!

In this case, 4690k will definitely overclock but remember overclock potential differs from chip to chip. Read this good review on i5 4690k

I would recommend i5 4690k with Asus Z97-A mobo.
