First time posting

I want to use my new seagate st3000dm001 3 terabyte hard drive to install windows on and use as
primary storage. My motherboard supports UEFI. I tried using disk part to convert it to GPT, but every time I make a new partition in custom advanced settings of windows install windows reverts my drive back to an MBR format.

I used these sites:
http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/252871-windows-7-install-seagate-barracuda-3tb-hdd-how-i-finaly-did.html

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2604034

Let me know if you need any other hardware specs.
Any help is appreciated.

First you need to be installing win7 - 64 bit. 32bit does not support uefi mode.

Next make sure your motherbd is set to uefi mode instead of legacy mode. This is easy to tell, if you go into the bios and its the old styly bios then you are in legacy mode. uefi is graphical.

Once you have the bios in uefi mode, insert your windows 64bit install media and reboot. Right after POST look for the F-key option that corresponds to 'Select Boot Device' (this is not the boot device option in the bios) and once you are on that screen select the UEFI option that matches your install media (example for dvd drive: UEFI: LG213 DVD (as opposed to the same listing without uefi in front of it which would be for installing in legacy mode))...

After beginning windows install in uefi mode the rest is the same as in legacy mode.
