I'm using ASUS P5PE-VM for 7yrs now. Config- P4 3.06GHz, 1.5GB DDR, 128MB AGP, 500W PSU (non brand). Recently, I notice a substantial voltage drop on 3.3V rail (it gets even below 2.6V sometimes). This happens at the very moment I connect 20 pin ATX connector to motherboard. All rail voltages are OK at no load.
But the greatest part of the problem is: 20 pin ATX power connector gets very very hot along with the wires it contains. And above all, several chips on the motherboard get extremely hot & I can't even touch the back of those (got blister on finger). I guess they are some kind of voltage regulator since they have small heatsink on the back, can't be specific. Their temperature get even higher than that of CPU. It's a miracle that I still can use the PC and write this post with such condition, can use more than an hour! Thanks to ASUS for manufacturing such nice PCB withstanding such enormous heat. Please note that, I added no new components to the motherboard & PSU. Voltage drop occurs even testing with another PSU. Don't know what to do and can't try using several replacements (trial and error basis) because of shortage of money. So please help. Thank you for reading such long post with strange issues.
