I built a gaming pc and everything is in fine and powered fine, but when I plug in a monitor it just tells me to move my mouse or press a key on my keyboard, but that doesn't work either. I've tried two different monitors and both work with my laptop. Nothing I've seen has worked.

Specs:
Asus Z87-A NFC Express edition motherboard
Intel i5 4670 3.4 GHZ
Thermaltake SMART M750W power supply
And 16GB of DDR3 1600 RAM

a couple of easy questions

a) how did you connect the monitor to the pc: vga/hdmi/dvi?
b) did you check out changing the source on the monitor?
c) is there a graphics card that you have not mentioned?

and you mentioned everything is fine, did it correctly connect to a different monitor after you built it?

a) It's connected using a vga to dvi adapter
b) I tried, but it wouldn't let me
c) yeah, it's a Geforce gtx 550

No, it hasn't worked yet, but I made sure and had a the person helping me with the build make sure everything was connected right.

Ok, here is what I would try.

remove/unseat the graphics card, connect the monitor to the motherboard's display output, power up and see if works

If not, I'd take BustaRhymes's suggestion and go through that thread as there are too many variables to consider.
