The new 8 core processors that should arrive next year sound really sweet and worth putting money into it. But that is one year from now.

If you want a new PC that is supposed to last for a while BUT DON'T want to be completely washed by the new and better innovations that are just around the corner, what are your options without being wasteful? I put emphasis on being efficient with money - think of it like being on a budget.

I was thinking of getting an A10 7850k part with a micro atx board, along with a r9 280x and one year from now, when Intel's new get arrives, just put the A10 in a small case and turn it into a server/htpc/steambox, while using the r9 280x in the new PC. Does that sound reasonable to you?

Or maybe the FX line, but AMD seems to have abandoned it. Really, what is AMD doing right now and what can i expect from them in the future?

What are your propositions?

If you are waiting for skylake...
You should know Direct X12 is on the way too Microsoft has shown the promo.. And Amd is also getting to next level, this year last or next year...
But still R9 280x can be considered as future proof! Well it is giving 80 fps at 1080p for battlefield 4. That is tempting !
.
Though Your idea is good. You can proceed ...

Please select a best answer when you are done, thanks.
