First build with $1000 budget. Help?

I'm looking to build my first gaming pc. My budget is $1000 for the computer only. I want to use either the BitFenix Phenom or the BitFenix prodigy as my case. I also want to be able to play almost any game out there on a decent setting. Is that possible with my budget? Please suggest specific builds or parts that will work with either cases!! Maybe even explain why you chose them or why they're good together. I appreciate any help as I'm really overwhelmed with everything. Thanks!
