My current setup:
FX-6300
Ga-970A-D3P Motherboard
8GB G.Skill RAM (2 x 4GB)
HIS Radeon R9 270 (Non-X)
CX500 PSU
1TB Seagate Barracuda
Windows 7 HP 64-Bit
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

I want to upgrade my current rig, within the next 6 months after saving some money. I'm aiming to not spend too much more than $1200 USD on it, under $1050 if possible. I will be keeping the HDD and getting a used one from a friend at a nice price of around $20. It still works, which is a plus lol. Anyway, since I don't need a new HDD , that left room to put more money into extras like an SSD and a larger PSU for future upgrades. Any other suggestions for changes?? Here's what I've thrown together myself.

That was my original plan, but the current motherboard I have is pretty bad. I want to be able to overclock a LOT so the motherboard needs upgrading. The 212 Evo isn't bad by any means, but I want Maximum overclocking potential and I'm not the biggest fan of water cooling, so Noctua's air coolers are pretty much the best around. The RAM would be so I would have 16GB which isn't exactly needed but I also record gameplay for YouTube so it might help me with video production. Other than that, the system doesn't need a full upgrade. I could probably stick with the 6300 I have and just OC it.

I think you'll just need a new motherboard, a new video card (but that video card is OK if you do not want to spend much money, the R9 270 can play every game you want) and a SSD. You can also get another power supply if needed, or a CPU from Intel (an i5 or an i7)

May I ask you if you do overclock the CPU or the GPU?

Here's my current suggestion. I kept it in $1000, although if you want to save money, you can save a lot of money changing the GTX 780 to a R9 280X, or even a GTX 770. I did choose an i7 as it has Hyper Threading. It doesn't help you in gaming, but it does help you in other tasks. If your only task is gaming, change it to an i5-4670 or an i5-4670K (you'll have to change the motherboard too). I did choose the 'K' version as well, because I do not know if you'll overclock it. If you won't, get the non-K version and save $50.

Here's other suggestion. It's got 16GB RAM from G.Skill, a R9 280X (Sapphire), a Noctua CPU cooler, the same Gigabyte motherboard and the same CPU.

My current GPU is overclocked to 1080MHz on the core from the OG 900MHz, the memory at 1525MHz from the OG 1400MHz. My FX 6300 is at stock clocks
