Hey there.

I have been requesting advice on my theoretical builds for a few months now and have come to some what of a decision. I have made two builds around $1000 AUD. Both seem good but the AMD based system seems to get better fps at a cheaper price.

Intel based system w/ benchmarks:

AMD based system w/ benchmarks:

So after watching those videos I saw that the Intel PC would get around 50-65 fps on BF4 (ultra) and the AMD would get 60-80 fps on BF4 (ultra). I'm really confused as to what I should get. Everyone tells me that 'Intel is way better than AMD' and 'Intel is so much better for gaming' but if I can get a PC for cheaper and better than the Intel system I would.

I'd really appreciate help in deciding which one to go with.

Thanks for reading!

You see it has more FPS because BF4 is better optimized for AMD, but also because the R9 280X is way better than the GTX 760. But the GPU isn't the only thing. It's the most important thing, but the CPU is important too. The i5 CPU is better than the AMD FX CPU, and that'll always be like that.

The best thing you could do is:
-CPU from Intel
-GPU from AMD
Here are my thoughts in no particular order.

1. Intel build is stronger overall in gaming. BF4 is one of the few select games that can make use of the additional cores provided by the FX-6300. However, most games do not. So for most games, Intel would be faster than the FX-6300.
2. The GPU for the AMD build is arguably a lot faster than the one for Intel's build.
3. The PSU in both builds are very low-end and I recommend getting a higher quality PSU.
4. The Intel build will be more upgradable with a few tweaks. The AMD FX series is pretty much end-of-line so if you plan to upgrade later, you will have to replace both the CPU and motherboard, which most likely results in you re-installing the operating system. With the Intel build, you will be fine in upgrades for the next-gen CPUs.

The performance different you are seeing is in the graphics card.
The R9 280X is equivalent to the GTX 770 from Nvidia. Sometimes the GTX 770 is faster, sometimes the R9 280X.
Both these cards are much faster than the GTX 760. For the $10 price difference I would definitely take the R9 280X with either CPU.

The Intel Core i5 4570 is better than the FX-6300. In some situations you will notice the difference and in others you won't.
This isn't a performance per dollar comparison, but rather just comparing the performance of these two CPUs. You will pay more for the Intel.

You could save some money with a cheaper motherboard. Consider micro ATX:

The Western Digital Caviar Blue hard drive is slow. The Seagate Barracuda is about the same price and performance is similar to the Western Digital Caviar Black:

Power supply you have chosen is fine.
