I am replacing almost all of my PC's parts, everything other than the case, memory, and HDD.
Right now I have all of my new parts here, along with a new copy of OEM Win7. I know the OEM versions are attached to the MB, but I was hoping that I could just leave the HDD alone, assemble the new system, and boot from the new windows 7 disc and wipe the old one completely out.
I'm thinking the best way to replace an old OEM Win7 with a new one, when changing MBs, is to
1) Leave the HDD with my current version of Win7 (attached to my old MB) alone.
2) Assemble the "new" pc, like I would if I had all new parts.
3) When first turning the "new" machine on, go into the BIOS and boot from the Win7 disc.
4) Follow the steps to erase my HDD and clean install windows, that will now be attached to my new MB.
5) Enjoy my "new" PC!
Am I right in assuming this is the best way start off fresh with my new parts?
Any help is appreciated.
