I almost bought a 780 ti, thank god I found out about the 4gb version of the 770 in time.

Basically, I want the cheapest possible version that won't burn out running at it's boost clock for a year or two. Note: I don't intend on doing any kind of Overclocking for the gpu. If I need MOAR POWER, I'll just get a second 770. They aren't nearly as expensive as a 780 ti so it's really no biggy.

Oh, the reason that I wanted to get the 770 over the 780 ti was for the extra gig of VRAM. New games for several years to come won't be able to scratch the 780 ti's pure processing power, but if you want to use really good textures then that 3gb becomes a limiter. I am into playing lots of Skyrim and my 1gb 7790 (I kick myself in the nuts for not getting the 2gb version) just can't keep up.

Why not just get a GTX 780 with 6GB of Vram?

3GB of VRAM is plenty for Skyrim. With high resolution texture mods and MSAA enabled, 2GB can be a problem.
Saying that, the GTX 770 is plenty fast enough for Skyrim so if this is the game you are aiming at the GTX 780 Ti would be a waste of money.
The Gigabyte card mentioned above is good.

first of all. the 780ti is more powerful than the 770, 2GB or 4GB regardless. Why? because the 780ti has a much fastet pixel and texture fill rate it can use it's VRAM waay more better than a 770 4GB ever could. the 770's raw isn't enough to use all that VRAM(4GB) in multi-monitor situations this is why the 780ti would get better fps at lets say 2K then a 4GB version of the 770 could.

However like Vincent said if your only purpose is to play modded skyrim and not make use of 'Raw Power' then the 4GB GTX 770 will do you nicely.
Even so, A heavily modded skyrim(100+ mods) will only use about 3GB so take that to note
