I have an AMD A-6 5400k with a H-105 from corsair. In a NZXT Source 530 an was wondering what are the best quality/quietest fans at full speed i can get for a reasonable price. I have led fans installed but max out at 1200RPM an is not cooling CPU good enough I think but might be wrong. An help or guidance be must appreciated.

They are ranked here by performance to noise ratio:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1345-page7.html

if ya search the web, you will see the Phanteks, Noctua and NB's in the top 3 and the Phanteks / Noctuas usually finishing 1-2

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/phenteks_f140/3.htm

Interesting that the Phanteks provided an extra 3C of cooling while the Nocs were running 25% faster.

I use 10 Phanteks 140SPs on my 420 and 280 rads and they run dead silent..... also use 6 more as case fans.

The 120mm version is available in Europe but I don't see it here in US yet ? Newegg has have created a page for them.

If ya can't get hands on those, I'd suggest NoiseBlockers B12-12 or the Gentle Typhoons 120-12 if ya can find any. Failing that the Corsair AF120.

Im a noob when coming to fans would corsair fans be good also. I have no how or what programs to use to setup fan speed at curtain temps have fan hub that runs fans at 100% no way to control. Kinda something plug an play but quiet

The ones I mentioned aren't bad.... see how they stack up against one another in the silentpcrevoew link above.....around 8th and 9th place IIRC.

Dunno if Speedfan works w/ ya MoBi..... I generally use Asus FanXpert but that requires an enthusiast Asus Board.

tell me about this fan hub

OK, I have one of those on the Phanteks.... if it works the same, you connect that to a CHA Fan header and it will control up to 8 fans..... now keep in mind that your MoBo header can likely handle about 1 amp.

If using 1200 rpm fans, I wouldn't break 0.83 amps
If using 1800 rpm fans, I wouldn't break 0.67 amps
If using 2400 rpm fans, I wouldn't break 0.50 amps

The Phanteks fans I recommended are 1200 rpm, 0.14 amps....so 6 oif those would be the most (0.84 amps) that I would put on there.

Look for 'fluid dynamic' fans. They quieter than double ball bearing, but they have a shorter life span.

If you don't mind a little extra noise, the double ball bearing will last a bit longer.. but over time that's like a few cents/month.

OK, let's think about this..... your CHA headers provide a variable voltage signal (say 5 - 12V) and the lower the voltage the slower the fans go and to speed them up, the MoBo cranks up the voltage a bit. Makes sense.

Now you connect a 12v power cable .... oops. Now all the fans see max voltage so they can do one and only thing and that's run at full speed.

Two exceptions:

1. Swiftech makes a hub that takes a PWM signal not variable voltage to control fan speed. It also has a 12v connector but since it's PWM control, the voltage doesn't affect anything. For this you need to use a CPU header and you need all PWM fans.

2. Phanteks makes a dual function unit:

a) It takes a PWM signal from the CPU header and a 12v power connector just like the Swiftech unit. It differs however in that the PCB converts the PWM signal into a variable voltage signal and will power 3 pin fans.

b) It takes a variable voltage signal from the MoBo and works just like the NZXT hub..... ya can control safely up to 8 fans but if ya connect the 12v cable, all fans go at full speed. can only get these at present buy buying a Phanteks case.

The one that came with your MoBo ...... generally only supplied on enthusiast level boards. Other alternative is something like the Reeven Six Eyes
