Hi all,
So after switching from the FX-6300s stock cooler to the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2, i noticed that after playing BF3 for maybe 4 minutes, My FPS drops from ~80 to ~25. When I checked my CPU frequencies, I see that all cores are downclocking to 1.4ghz. This never happened with my stock cooler. I also doubt this is temperature related, because when the FPS drops occur, the CPU is never over 48 degrees. Thoughts?
My Build:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Mobo: ASRock 960GM/U3S3
CPU: AMD FX-6300 (not overclocked)
Cooler: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2
GPU: PNY Nvidia GTX 770 2GB
RAM: TEAM Zeus 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600
PSU: Raidmax RX-730SS 730W
HDD: WD WD1002FBYS 7200RPM 1TB
SSD: Crucial M500 240GB

Try forcing your CPU at stock freq with AMD Overdrive (also change your power profile to high performance), if there's some heating issue the CPU will still rollback to 1.4ghz, else it should stay at stock without fps drops, if that happens then it would mean there's some sort of software issue though right now can't think what could it be.

I never used Overdrive because it sucks and AMD recently removed it as a download from the official website.

You can control cool n quiet in the bios but honestly if your temps are good it should not be down throttling.

I would recommend to double check your temps and probably disable cpu smart protection if they never hit 60c

So, i seem to have fixed the problem by disabling AMD's turbo feature in the BIOS, which leads me to believe that it is indeed a temperature problem. The thing is, I had 4 different temperature monitoring programs open, Open Hardware Monitor, Speccy, CPUID Hardware Monitor, and CoreTemp, and each one of these told me that at about 49C my CPU would downclock. After shutting down my computer after a 30 min session of BF3, my BIOS told me that my CPU was running at above 56C. I have heard that AMD's Piledriver architecture is difficult to get accurate temperature readings on without checking the BIOS itself, and it seems that's very true, and unavoidable. If anyone knows a way to get accurate, realtime temperatures on Piledriver I'd be very happy to know how.

Well it is a package temp that can vary by 10c and will depend on your motherboard how accurate the reading is.

It is not really good to have so many monitors open.

If you disable the turbo you should set the vcore to your turbo supplied vcore and set your cpu multiplier to the turbo supplied multiplier.
