I have a Z87-A Mb with an I5 4590S. New build. No OS. Just started this. When I first turned it on I got a red light CPU. Thinking that the Mb might be bad I replaced it. Little red light came on. Then I replaced the CPU. Red light. Replaced the ram. No help. I talked to a friend who said I might need a new power supply so I got a new one of those. Same thing. I have tried it outside the case. Double checked all the connections. I'm not getting any beep's from the speaker and nothing on the monitor. I'm not sure what to do now. Please can someone help me?

If talking about small red LED, these are fault indicators. Your MoBo manual will tell you what they indicate. A good manual will offer solutions. Tech Support should guide you thru a solution. Replacing the MoBo, RAM, PSU is rather rash without taking any diagnostic steps.

I haven't heard a beep in this millenium. That's what LEDs and Q codes are for :)

Call Tech Support.

Usually this is a connection issue...forgetting to plug in EPS cable or CPU fan .... bad CPU mounting or overtightened cooler. Tho I have had a bad GFX card do the same thing.

its the CPU light. I double check every thing when i'm installing new equipment to make sure i don't screw up. I'm one of those weird people that likes to read the instruction. MoBo has a built in GFX card so i'm using that (I do have another GFX card that i tried as well it didn't help). The manual was no help. It told me to check the connection witch i did. Tech support is a no go till Monday.

Yes, that's why I listed the "usual suspects" for a CPU Light error. The last (next to last maybe) page of the MoBo Manual is the most important :).

It has the telephone number for Tech Support.

Before buying other components, let them guide you thru their troubleshooting procedures and if nuthin works, prepare an RMA

Okay i went back through the check list just to make sure and everything is fine. I reread the Manual there was nothing in there to help me with my problem. An RMA doesn't sound like it will help seeing as how this is the second MoBo. I can see one board going bad but two in a row seems unlikely.Tech support wont be open for 28 more hours so are there any other suggestions?

Ok so the Z87-A won't work with a 4th Gen so I had to get a different MoBo. The Z87-A can not update the bios from USB. This is from ASUS. Even with the right bios ASUS said the MoBo has problems with the 4th Gen. Thanks for the help.

I do not believe that to be correct. And I apologize, i thought you were "upgrading" to a new CPU on an existing MoBo.

http://hardware-360.com/asus-adds-devils-canyon-support-z87/

In a surprise move, ASUS adds Devil’s Canyon support to Z87 and to the rest of their 8 series motherboards. .....Devil’s Canyon can technically run on 8 series motherboards with a simple bios update.

The 4590S is a supported CPU on Z87

*Note:Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool.

The general procedure with a "refresh" is that you have to upgrade the BIOS with an "older" pre-refresh CPU in the MoBo. At that point you can swap the CPUs.
