I'm currently running win7 dell, i have intalled windows8.1 downloaded from other website now i want downgrade it to windows 7 can i reinstallation dvd to do this does it comes with bulid in product key or new key required

Did your PC come with 7? If so, there should be a sticker on the side with a key.

Hi,
As you have installed a retail version of Windows 8.1 the restore partition that was on the hard drive wont work. You have to manually reinstall Windows using the reinstallation DVD that came with the system. If you have the DVD, please follow the steps suggested in http://dell.to/1bOvoee.

In case you dont have the media, please send me a private message with the system service tag and the result, I would be happy to check the warranty details and help you with the options available.

Check the back of your Laptop if there is a Windows Operating System label like this one:

If there is, then you will need an Operating System like this one above, you will need a Windows 7 Professional license. If yours is a Windows 7 Home Edition, then use a Windows 7 OS and use the license key.
