I turn my computer on this morning to see a Select Boot Device screen. So the first thing i do is restart and go into bios and see what is going on. Nothing changed, my drive with the OS on it is still first to boot. I tried manual boot and still brings me back to select boot device screen. So i unplug everything and after some trial and error it seems SATA connected devices (internal HD, optical drive) is the culprit. They work if i plug them in after but before and nothing boots but everything is still read in bios.

Since they work if i plug them in after it's probably not faulty wires or connectors. Any thoughts as to what is happening?

I think it maybe the SATA cable, or maybe I am wrong, but you can try. Test all the SATA devices one by one, like using the hard drive with OS to boot the PC, then connect other SATA device to see boot or not, if you can disconnect this one and plug the next to test. Because I had the similar case, my PC can't boot sometime, or boot slower than before, or boot in normal speed, later I found out one SATA cable was bad accidentally.

No it isn't. Shouldn't be a problem though since i've been on this configuration for almost 2 years with no problems.

I did try all devices one by one and it doesnt matter how many are connected. Both SATA devices I have (2tb internal and optical) other than the HDD my os is on prevents normal boot whether they are both connected are just one at a time.

i fixed it if it can be even called a fix.

What I did was just switch the cables around. Not new cables, just the cables i was already using except switched what they connected to. Works now.

Fucking magic.
