hello guys. i've just ordered some components for my new build..the components are:
-Corsair DDR3 8192MB 1600MHz CL11
-AMD FX-6300, 3500 MHz, Turbo 4100 MHz, Cache L3 8MB, TDP 95W (BOX) [Vishera]
-Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 motherboard
-Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 256-bit [Dual-X, OC Version, Boost]

I have two psu-s, a 450w DELL 450db(15a on 12v rail) and a 500w atx p4(21 A on 12v rail)... I think it's a noname, as there is no manufacturer on it... Which one should I use? Or should I buy a new one? I wouldn't like to purchase a new one, because I have already ordered the components... I'd also like to mention that I wouldn't like to overclock the cpu or the gpu neither, and I will use a fan controller with 2 fans.(2x 5w) Thanks :)

Solution

I know that but,

with one of these could he use a r9 270X with a psu that has only one pcie connector. Not something i recommend, but it could be done if someone already has a perfectly fine psu.

@artursz17,

I don't think you should take the chance with those old psu's and their specs, not with two of those needed. They're just not that good.
For a system using a single AMD Reference Design Radeon R9 270X graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater system power supply. The power supply should also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 30 Amps or greater and have at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most critical factor.

What is the Dell 450W PSU's model number?

What is the generic PSU's model number? There should be some specification information on its label.

yep,Vic is right, I also had it in a dell 1600sc server...
The r9 270x's minimum requirements are 500w and 24A on the 12v rail... I have 500w but I only have 21A on the 12v rail... what could happen if I use this one? cause I ran out of money, and as I've seen, the prices start at around 40-50 $ .. thanks :D

I don't know, I'm not very familiar with it, so I took a pic..

Sapphire states that 2X75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express power connectors is required for the SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 OC WITH BOOST.

The R9 270 (non-X) version only requires 1X75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express power connector.
