Apologize for the title, not sure how to word it.

I may be moving in with friends who have an established internet connection. They have a Comcast SMC gateway. It won't be feasible to hard wire my computer into the gateway so I was wondering if it was possible to use my D-Link Dir-655 as a way to connect to the gateway wirelessly then have my pc plugged into it?

I know just enough networking to be dangerous, but the vernacular is beyond me.

No, I do not believe that device can be used as a network Bridge - meaning it will not pick up a wireless SSID to be used by it's internal 4 wired ports. You would need to run a wire to it from the existing router.

You can however check to see if your friend's existing device can be set up as a Bridge and buy another one to use in your room.
