Newly made PC has a strange problem.

I recently made my PC, and it was completely perfect until yesterday, when it developed a strange (and terrifying) issue. When I press the 'On' button, the computer turns on (all the fans start, LEDs light up, etc) for around 1-2 seconds, then it turns back off again. If I press the button again, it either does it again or the computer turns on and starts working normally.
I'm terrified I'm damaging the components or something, so some advice would be seriously appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You won't be damaging you components, It could be a range of issues, when you power on and it turns off does it reach POST?
You could try running memtest86 and see what results you get from that.

I'm not overclocking or anything, the only BIOS setting I changed was to turn off A CPU fan error message. (I'm using an aftermarket cooler, so the bios thought it was running slowly). Also, it does not reach POST. It literally turns off after around 1-2 seconds with no screen activity whatsoever. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Memtest86, also. Could you perhaps run me through what I need to do, and how I recognise errors?

Here's a good thing to help you with Memtest http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1906201/test-memory-memtest.html.

Also it's possible you got a defective PSU and it's dying causing it not to startup everytime.
it would be helpful if you would please list your full specs.
