New Router, unable to access the Internet

So, I have just bought a brand new D-link DIR-820L router for my home network. Upon successfully completing the set-up and configuration process to a DHCP connection I am having some difficulties connecting devices. For example, the globe on the router is green, the computer will pick up the Wi-Fi and say that it has internet access but no web pages will load. It is the same story if I connect and ethernet cord from the router to the computer. Says it has a connection but nothing loads. I have checked and re-checked the router settings via the admin set-up tool and all is well there (WAN IP is correct, connection status to internet is good etc.). Their tech-support has been less than helpful and I have tried everything they have recommended and that I can think of. I have even reset and re-configured the router multiple times, same issue in the end. I'm currently connected directly to my modem, please help!

Solution
One of the major reasons why a new router wont entirely work out of the box is because of the IP addresses assigned to it..

Here's my solution to solve the problem:

1. Go to the http://dlinkrouter.local
2. Type in your password
3. Go to Status (assuming the internet logo on the DIR820L is green and lit up)
3. At the STATUS page, check the LAN connections
4. Under LAN connections, make sure the IP address of the router DIR820L is not in conflict with that of the modem. So try this IP 192.168.1.2 instead of the 192.168.0.1.
5. After you have changed this in Network Settings under Advanced Tab save the settings, after the 10 sec count down, turn of the router so you have a fresh restart
6. Turn on the router after about 30 secs.
7. You...

I have re-booted the modem and then router several times but I will also try shutting down my PC while I do so this time and power it up once the router is online and connected to the modem. Hopefully it's that simple, I will let you know how it goes in a few minutes, thanks for the reply =)

Okay, so that didn't work unfortunately. Anything else you could suggest?

from the computer that will not load browser pages - goto command prompt and type ipconfig /all
see what the IP Address is for the connection (wired or wireless) and then use the ping command to see if you get a response from yahoo.com = ping yahoo.com

I have been having the exact same problem with the DIR-820L router connected to Dishnet satellite internet service and have follow all of the above troubleshooting steps. I have two D-Link routers side by side, the DIR-820L and a DI-624. The DI-624 allows all connected devices to connect to the internet with no issues. The DIR-820L refuses to allow connection to the internet by any wired or wireless device. This is the second DIR-820L I have tried to connect. The first one exhibited the exact same symptoms and was returned to Office Depot. I'm now wondering whether there is something fundamentally wrong with this model or an obscure setting that is preventing devices from being able to connect. PLEASE HELP!!

My apologies, the router that is working is a DI-524, which is connected to my Dishnet modem. When the DIR-820L is connected the power and internet icons on the front of the router light green, indicating that it's connected to the internet, but no devices connected to the router, neither wired nor wireless, can connect to the internet. If I switch to the DI-524, or connect my computer directly to the modem, I can immediately connect to the internet without having to restart / reboot anything. I've even tried connecting the DIR-820L to the DI-524 with no change in the outcome.

have you gone into the menu of the 820 and checked the configuration? the wireless service can be turned off, set to MAC address connect only, or any number of other reasons why nothing can connect to the internet

Yes, I'm familiar with setting up a router and going through the menu options. I've compared the basic settings between my old DI-524 and the new DIR-820L to ensure they are the same, yet I'm still not able to connect to the internet through the router by using either the wireless or any of the ethernet wired ports. If any computer is connected directly to the modem it is able to connect to the internet with no issues. I'm currently on my second DIR-820L because I took the first one back to the store assuming that there was a defect, but this second one is behaving exactly the same way.

7. You should now have a connectivity to the internet.

Let me know if this worked out...

Thanks 42ner. Wish I'd received this suggestions sooner. After several days of frustration and lack of success I finally returned the 2nd router and went with a Linksys router I received from a family member. Even though it was used, it was still set up with the default settings and worked immediately upon start up. Will keep this suggestion in mind if this problem is ever encountered again.
