Some PSU Advice

Three years ago I purchased a gaming case from a UK based company called X-Case. I treated myself to a 700w psu from them too which was about £20-£25 and had a 80+ rating.

For a few months I noticed a burning smell coming from my pc when playing games and the psu fan also stopped working. Last month I tried over clocking my cpu and the psu went nova! No damage to the rest of the pc but the psu was dead as a dodo.

I salvaged the psu from my previous build. Its 450w, was brought from Maplin and manufactured by a company called iCute. It was the type of psu they stocked back then (about 8 years ago). I've never had any problem with it although its fan no longer spins (I think this is due to dust not damage). 450w is the recommended psu for my graphics card. Do you think I'm alright to keep using it? Do you think I'm okay to use it in a new build I intend doing over the next couple of weeks?

Or should I go buy a Corsair CX500?

I'm laughing so hard, I can barely type... How many mistakes do you want to make in a row? First you buy a low-end, cheap-ass £25 PSU, then you don't react when you detect all the possible danger signals, and eventually when it self-destructs you want to replace it with an even-lower quality Maplin PSU with less capacity?

Corsair CX is a Tier three PSU - Meets standard ATX specifications, though closer to the edges than Tier two units. These are still solid units, which still supply stable power to your system, though not ideal for serious overclocking

It may be OK, depending on what you intend to power.
