Wifi doesn't connect, but ethernet does

Ever since yesterday, my wifi has refused to respond to any of the devices in my house. I can't connect to it, even find the network itself. When I use ethernet, the network is recognized and I can connect to the internet (just like what I'm doing right now in order to make this thread). It's quite strange, because there was no sign of a dying modem or router (as I think, I'm not so tech-savvy but I'm not tech-ignorant either).

However, just recently, when I connect the ethernet cable I'm using to the router I'm using and always had (D-Link DIR 655), the network that pops up is entirely different than what I usually have. Let's say, I have a wireless network named "homenet". When I plug in the ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports on the back of my D-Link router, there is no homenet network. Instead, there is "ANDREW-PC_Network". That's the only network that I am receiving that is a full 4 bar connection, the wireless network has the very same connection type (802.11g), but the only problem is, the encryption key has changed. If my old homenet wireless internet connection had a password of "NOT SURE IF SERIOUS - REDACTED by Moderator", it is no longer that. It is something entirely different, which makes it harder to connect to the internet.

My ISP is TDS Telecom and I use a 802.11g internet connection. I have DSL. My router is a D-Link DIR 655.

I'm going to call TDS Telecom about this, but before I do, I want to know what is my problem. I installed and reinstalled the drivers on every laptop in my house, I resetted the router, modem, and the only thing that works is ethernet. If I connect the ethernet cable to the router, I get an entirely different wireless network than what I used before.

Your description of the problem would be good to tell them if you decided to call.

You could try to do a few simple things first to see if it you can fix it. Do you know somebody named Andrew? You could be seeing their WiFi if they leave nearby.

Assuming you are using the D-Link router to connect to DSL and your PC and your not using a 2nd modem or router:

1) Unplug your Dlink router & Disconnect the Ethernet from the computer or device is connected to.
2) get one of the devices and forget or delete your network from the devices list
3) plug the router back in
4) have that device look for your networks SSID (network name)

Can you see it?

My name is Andrew, I'm using my name as an example of what I am seeing. I'm not revealing my real network and password (although the moderator already did the job).

But I figured it out - my dad manually connected the router and the router made a new wireless network, that's why I'm getting the new network. He wrote down the code but what I am wondering is why I have a new network. It's unusual.

But then again I've downloaded a bunch of steam games since the steam sale was happening recently and it looks like I overloaded the internet. But that sounds very unlikely.
