Can the Pentium be overclocked effectively on an MSI B85-G43 motherboard? And also, Is it worth it compared to an i3-4130 just because of it being unlocked?

No. The B85 motherboard chipset doesn't allow overclocking. You'd need a Z87 or Z97 motherboard, which are more expensive.

Rather than go for a Z87 or Z97 board + a Pentium G3258 + CPU cooler, it may be a better idea just to go B85 + an i3-4150.

Apparently, M.S.I. have a bios trick to do it on an H81 board that costs about £45.
That really would be worth building for a family surf box..

Then it would be more convenient and less expensive to go with the B85-G43 and an i3 processor, I plan to build an entry level game pc.

Yes, most likely. It seems like the Pentium G3258 is mostly meant for people who already intended to get overclocking parts, and also to steal overclocking bragging rights away from the competing (weaker) Athlon 750K.

Either the i3-4130 or the i3-4150 are good options. They'll perform similarly to an FX-6300 in most games. A bit weaker in some, stronger in many others.

Alternatively, you could just get a Pentium and leave it at stock clocks, depending on your budget and video card if you can't afford an i3. A haswell Pentium CPU wouldn't hold back an R7 260X, GTX 750 TI, or weaker. But you'd run into some CPU bottlenecks if you paired it with a GTX 760, R9 270X, or stronger.
