Hey everyone,

I have a MSI G45 Z87 board with an i5 Haswell chip, and am looking to add more SATA ports.

I have two Samsung 840 PRO 512GB SSDs, which I plan to RAID0 for the main OS drive. Then I also have six 4TB HDDs that I want to use in windows storage spaces, and will be combined to create one mirrored volume (essentially raid1, but done through the software). Lastly, i have one DVD drive as well. All these components use the SATA interface for connectivity.

THUS, considering that my board only comes with 6 SATA III ports, I need to add at least 3 more ports. In doing so, I would need to add a SATA controller that would allow me to use all my drives at their fastest possible speed.

I was thinking put the 2 SSDs on the MSI board, then everything else can go anywhere else because they won't come near to saturating even a SATA II connection. But my main concern is that I do no clearly understand the bandwidth specifications with PCIe and how many lanes I would need in order to make sure I don't take a performance hit. What do you think?

PS. Anything recommended under 100 bucks would be greatly appreciated, if possible. Thanks!
