I have an old EasySuite transfer cable which I had used to copy files from Windows XP computer to a Vista machine. Now I want to use it for Windows 7 to Windows 8 or 8.1 without forking over another $30, but instead of showing both the local files below and the remote files above, it shows only the files local to each end. Several guesses as to what is wrong yielded nothing. If I were to update my USB drivers, how would I know which ones to update? (I did download new drivers from the EasySuite site, but they did not answer my emails.) Or, do I need to share out the C drives before all is well? There are several more possibilities. All help gratefully received.

Solution
The device is NOT compatible with current OSes. Further you missing out on the FREE INCLUDED TOOL to do the same thing. Simply buy a ext HDD ($40 Walmart) plug it in, click the orb, in RUN type Windows Easy Transfer. It will then let you backup how your Windows is at that moment, all data files, wallpapers, favorites, etc. This has been included in Windows since Vista and works very well on Windows 7 as well.

Now your warning: as of Windows 8.1 WET will NOT LONGER WORK TO BACKUP YOUR DATA. Per Microsoft, once you setup Windows 8, your required to have a Windows LIVE! account, and Windows will backup all your My Documents, My videos, etc. to the Microsoft Servers. This 'feature' then allows that if ANYTHING EVER HAPPENS all you need to...

Solution
What files are you planning to transfer? If just User files, Docs/pics/music etc. you should be able to do so using your Network. Set up a Homegroup on the W8 machine and once you have a P/W join the Homegroup on the W7 Machine.
Then simply transfer your required data...
ps If your network is wireless, and you want faster transfer speeds, simply connect the two machines with an Ethernet cable. Remember to turn on File Sharing for both...
