Hi all,

I'm building an all around fast system for multitasking, trading, watching videos etc, but also for gaming if I may get bored or broke ;)

I plan on putting a slight/decent overclock on the I7 4790K.

I want to use two 2560x1440 monitors for browsing/movies etc, but I only need 1 monitor if I decide to play some games.

Furthermore I want my pc to be as quiet as possible when idle, It doesn't have to be total silence but that would be very nice.

This is my list of components this far. It's basically an I7 4790k, z97 build with a MSI R9 290 gpu.

The case I have chosen is a Corsair Carbide 330r, but I don't know if this is a good enough case for my build?

Any recommendations for a good cooling and as quiet as possible case that fit my build?
Is my cpu cooler good enough or do I need a better/bigger one?

If you have any suggestions or remarks on this system in general please let me know, I would appreciate it very much.

Will be checking this thread later today, thanks in advance.

I see nothing much I would change. Maybe the CPU cooler for a Noctua. More silent, better cooling. But at idle it doesn't matter much and when gaming the GPUs fan will be making much more noise than CPU-fan anyway.
Intel is quite a cool chip, compared to AMD.

Case, the one you have or Fractal Design, more a matter of taste.
Carbide has 16 cm room for CPU cooler, Fractal has 17cm but just about all coolers are around 15 cm (just like that Gelid).

I did take a good look at the R4 and decided to go with it, thanks for the tip. This is my list so far and I'm very close placing the order:

http://azerty.nl/winkelmandje/winkelmandje/?legen=1&product%5B649374%5D=1&product%5B9448%5D=1&product%5B608024%5D=1&product%5B628589%5D=1&product%5B642781%5D=1&product%5B536990%5D=1&product%5B458903%5D=1&product%5B437125%5D=1&product%5B648595%5D=1&product%5B645242%5D=1&product%5B499535%5D=1&product%5B452330%5D=1&product%5B688052%5D=1&product%5B634348%5D=1&product%5B707629%5D=1

Did change some things and decided I'm going to use two 1920x1200 monitors instead of two 2560x1440.

A few questions:

Is this cooler good enough for a decent but not max overclock? Keep in mind I like performance but I also appreciate silence.

Also do I need anymore casefans? Any tips regarding cooling etc?

If you have any tips or remarks on this system please let me know, I would appreciate it very much,

Thanks in advance.

I've never owned an Intel in my 15 years of PC gaming so I can't comment on CPU/Cooler.

Seems the case comes with 2 fans but I would use 2 fans in the front to cool harddrives and also push in some extra air.
And 1 fan in the back and 1-2 at the top. Remember, heat travels upwards so its going to all collect at the top of the case.
1 option would be to mount a fan in the side of the door but that tends to bring a lot of noise. So I don't do that. I prefer 2 fans on top.

It depends on what kind of climate you live in. If its hot during the summers, use more fans. 120-140mm, silent, low RPM but with decent air flow, 60 CFM or so.

Something like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3SD1AN2619&cm_re=scythe_fan-_-1YF-0006-00081-_-Product

I use Scythe, they are quiet and plenty of airflow. If you have an additional fan controller you could buy faster fans and turn em down when full performance is not needed but I just cant stand 37 decibel fans. 24 is like a whisper, 37 is like shouting.

When I run the 3 fans (1x back + 2x top) at 'silent mode', the temp in my case rises by 5-10c which means that my overclock is no longer stable, temp wise. I run them at 100% speed constantly now. This only happens now during the summer when its 25c in my room. So for me it is crucial.
My AMD CPU is pushing out 50-55c of hot air and GPU around 70c so yeah.
I overclock both GPU and CPU, CPU by 10% and GPU is factory OC'ed so not much room to increase clocks.

Intels like to run hotter. They are made for it. 100 degrees celsius or so is the max temp. But at the same time the TDP is lower compared to AMD so I don't know what the impact is.
The new AMD Radeons are also made to run at 95 celsius. If you aren't, you are loosing performance, according to AMD.

You could always buy extra case fans later, if you need them.

The memory looks really good, CL 8.
I've heard Dell makes good monitors as well, suprisingly (at least to me).
Motherboard is mostly about taste, just make sure it supports your CPU, the mobo features you want/need are totally up to you to decide.
Make sure you buy a quality PSU. Brand names mean nothing. Look at who actually manufactures them.
Couple of links to give you more info.

"Tier three - Meets standard ATX specifications, though closer to the edges than Tier two units. These are still solid units, which still supply stable power to your system, though not ideal for serious overclocking"

"Corsair
CS series (High inrush current and +12V ripple levels, only on high levels of load)
CX / CXM series
RM 750 / 850w models (LTEC capacitors and made by Chicony)
VS series"

Thank you very much for your advise mamasan!

I will probably just put a small overclock on the I7 4790K and just see how the temps will be.

Will post results itt when I've got the the pc. And I hope it's easy to overclock.. never done that before.

Thanks again!
