I've had this laptop for a couple of days and I'm fed up with Win 8.1. Therefore I've installed a formatted 960 gb ssd, and I'd like to install win 7 64bit. I've disabled the secure boot option, which was causing problems, and I've set it to boot from the optical drive as the first option. I've restarted the pc, pressed a key to boot from the dvd, and copied over the files. The "starting windows" screen opens, with the glowing window icon, and that's as far as it gets. The icon is shifting around a bit, but there is no other sign of progress.

What with 8.1 was bugging you. Does your laptop even have win 7 drivers available? A lot of people do this and find out there is no drivers available. If you insist then you yoy can download a win 7 ios from ms and use the windows to usb tool from ms and put it on a usb key and try but I think drivers may be an issue

Franky, I just got sick of trying to navigate around it. Even turning the pc off or restarting was a pain in the butt. And as it happens, the support page for that laptop includes a full set of Win 7 drivers. My problem is that I can't get the install to the point where I can install the drivers. I can't even get to the point of selecting the keyboard type.
