Hello,
a friend with an HP Pavilion G6 (he doesn't know the exact model, he's going to check out the right one) has a problem: he updated the drivers from the AMD site, selecting the right OS and GPU series, but, after the update (to the 14.4 version), he found that the GPU,an AMD HD Radeon 6470M is now detected as a 7400M. I read that they are quite the same thing, if you check the tech specs you can see it, but we both don't think it is a good thing, especially with games (he usually plays on that PC). What can he do? Should we do a System Restore to the last installed point of restoring (luckily, it was yesterday)? Would it work, so that he has the previous used drivers? Please help us! Thanks! For further details, we'll add them later.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. My PC detects my r9 280x as a HD 7970, they're essentially the same card.

If you are worried though, download GPU-Z here http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ and see what that calls the GPU

I read about the rebranding, but I don't think it is the solution. No game starts, plus the detected memory is of 4.xxx.xxx.xxx Mb as you see in the screen. Even the temperature detected is over one million degrees. What is the correspondent version of the driver, atiumdag 14.100.0.0? Is it 14.4?

We did a system restore and the drivers get to the previous version. Now it's all ok. But my friend wanted to update the drivers, did they stopped updating that cards? nVidia has a very better service as regards drivers, I'm talking as a nVidia fan and a old nVidia graphic card owner, the 9400GT: they still update it, like my other, more recent card, the 770...
