Good Morning Everyone,

So let me start off with explaining i am looking for a temporary solution. My Socket LGA-1156 board recently shorted out. almost impossible to find a replacement now adays so looking for a temporary solution I am looking for a decent CPU that i can get MB, New Ram, and a new case while keeping under 350 i have all other parts already. i was orignally considering an APU due to CPU Boss stating the a10-6800k has some of the best single core performance for the money, not sure how they benchmark that though, I play Everquest Mostly and so mutlicore actually decreases performance. So my main thing is budet CPU around 150 bucks that i can have decent single core performance but multi core compatibility for other games. WIll be paired up with Asus GTX 650 2 gb dedicated card in the system so even if i do go with APU i will be disabling it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

A tiny bit over budget but with your video card, you should be able to run practically any game with this:

APU would be a waste of money. Better off with an Athlon 760k as an extreme budget option.

Unless you had one of those hybrid boards with DDR2 and DDR3 slots, you should be able re-use the DDR3, at least temporarily.

Used LGA1156 boards should be fairly easy to come by on places like ebay. Just have to find highly rated sellers with pictures of a system booting, or working pulls.

If you are after single core performance something like an intel dual core would still be a wise choice.
