I have a core 2 duo in a gigabyte mobo socket 775. I bought a new core 2 quad Q9300 and installed it but when I boot up it only goes to the mobo splash screen. I also dont have any keyboard functions. All the usb ports will only get power for a second when you plug them in. If I put the older cpu back in everything works great. I think it might be a bad cpu which sucks since it is brand new and I can't return it.

@ Swifty_morgan - I don't argue that. My point being that if the CPU is supposed to be natively supported by BIOS ver. F1 and yet, for some reason, it is not, I would expect the BIOS Update notes to state that the issue was corrected in BIOS ver F2/F3/F5/etc...

I'd even go as far as saying it could be a web site SNAFU and someone copied the rev 2.0 CPU Support List to the rev 1.2 CPU Support List. In which case, an undocumented BIOS update, as you suggest would be warrented, but I'd still be looking for some form of confirmation before updating the BIOS.

I had already tried updating to the newest bios version with no change. There is a older bios version that has cpu support update. Is that update not included in the newest version and is there some other issue with the ps2 keyboard not working or the usb ports?

It is new but I bought it from a third party site. Starmicro.net
I was told it was new before I purchased it but wasn't able to install it for months. I inspected it before I installed it and it looked to have never had any kind of thermal paste on it.

It was in a clear plastic package but I only had a 90 day warranty with Starmicro.net. It is well past the 90 days. I do have a receipt from them but like I said it's out of warranty. Returning it isn't an option now just wanted some insight if I could make it work or consider the new cpu a dud and stick with what I have. Should I try the older bios update?
