Beeping despite everything

Hello. I recently bought several sticks of second-hand RAM for an 8.5-year-old computer, with a Foxconn motherboard. There was nothing wrong with my old RAM, it was just that it was only 512 MB. When I put it in I evidently didn't seat it properly as when I switched the PC on it gave repeated, long beeps. I reseated it so that it clicked in, but still the beeps. I tried each other stick that I had and still it beeped in the same way, even when I put my old RAM back in, so it seems that the reseating hasn't been recognised. Can anyone help me with this?

I removed the lithium battery and then put it back in having read that this will reset the CMOS. Switched on with one stick. Still the beeping. I don't know about the voltage and timing adjustments. With thanks.

Can get the memory slots replaced, or will I need a whole new motherboard? I assume it *is* the memory slots.... Unless it's my corrupted Vista partition...?

beeps usually are an indication pf POST (Power-On Self Test) issues long before the system tries to boot up.

You can listen to the beeps - they have a pattern and then find a site that explains the meaning of those beep codes for your particular BIOS.

If your memory slots are damaged, it's not worth repairing - replace the motherboard.

Also double-check that you ordered the correct memory type - number of pins and DDRx type that's compatible. Carefully inspect the pins on the memory to see if they are all ok or if some are damaged before inserting them into the new motherboard.
