Brand new the forum and I'm looking for some suggestions.

I currently run a graphic design business where I create and share pdf, psd, ai, and sometimes doc files with a second designer half way across the country. So, currently I use a service which makes my FTP site look like a network drive. I simply uploaded all of our company files to our site via FTP.

I chose this setup because my files were once hosted on an usb drive labeled as Z: drive. This meant that Word files which had embedded clipart pointing to the old drive such as Z:/images/clipart.gif, would need to be accessible. When I tried sharing my files with others through cloud storage, there was no assigned drive. So when we accessed Word files that needed to embed clipart.gif, it had no idea where or what the Z drive was.

I am looking for a way to share files among different employees over the internet. The FTP which looks like a drive service works because somebody on the west coast can map a Z drive from the FTP account and I can do so here, meaning we can both access our Z drive of files.

The issue is, none of my files are protected. Meaning that my employee on the other site of the country can download all of my company files onto his PC. Nothing is protected and everything is vulnerable.

I am looking for a solution which will help me by allowing staff to share files but also protect valuable company resources. Can this be done? We are a small business, so I am looking for the most cost effective solution.

If you don't want them to have access to the files, don't give them access.

Are you backing up your files? It seems like you worried about them removing the files, not actually accessing(downloading) the files. If you had a backup, then you just restore them.

Basically, I don't want my other guy to backup important company files. I know what you are saying, don't give him access but he obviously needs access to the files to work on them.
