Hello

I read a lot of post about the same issue. All started some days ago when mi old HDD die. Today I bought the new one, I connet the cables on it and try to install windows 7... Cant complete installation.

The computer shuts down or restar the computer, everytime... I dont know why.

I installed XP and had0 0 problems. So i try to install w7 from the cd on XP and try to get to the expanding files. Got a blue screen, cant remember the theme about it.

My ram is ok (memtest says so), the HDD is new (1tb) but the computier is old. About seven years.

I read here that the cpu could be with a lot of heat and needs to change the thermal paste. But why i can install XP? why all so sudden? Why my bios (with cmos reseted) dont tell me the high cpu temprature? (I set an alarm if goes 60º or more).

What is happening?

Sorry for my english

Solution
I installed earlier Window 7 on my computer but I have even older computer. I intalled 32-bit version of Win7. My CPU is Pentium D and 32-bit version works fine even on weaker computers. Try intall 32-bit of Win7, on quad core CPU should work excellent.

If you found it offensive, then I apologize. All that I meant was "Ask any questions you have".

No, not if you can still install XP.

Please list the make and model of:
mobo?
CPU?
memory?
HDD?
GPU?
PSU?

My motherboard is a gigabyte p35-ds3r.
Cpu is Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz
Ram is 3gb (3x1gb) ddr2 kingston. 800mhz
Hdd is a seagage 1tb 7200.

The graphic card is a geforce 9800gt and the power suply has 500w.

I had installed w7 a lot of times in the past.

Everything started lik a mongth ago, suddenly the computer started to go very slow and taking a lot of time "thinking". I solve that reinstalling w7 but some weeks ago started with the long time loads. I changed the HDD because it seems to be broken. W7 and XP dont recognize it.

Now, with the new HDD, the instalattion of w7 cant complete because the computer shuts down.

Your computer shutdown could be caused by a number of things.

First, watch the fan on your CPU cooler when you start up the computer. Does it look like it is spinning at normal speeds? If not, replace it.

Next, do you have a spare PSU that you can use or borrow? Is your PSU also 7 years old? It could be that your existing PSU is just on the edge between normal operation and failing.
