Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but figured I'd start here. Is there a way to power a fan with a 4-pin connector for use in non-computer applications? (i.e. a thermo-electric generator lab experiment). My first thought was using some sort of usb adapter or something to power the fan but am not sure where to look for one of these. Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
Used to be everyone assumed 4 pin was PWM.....no longer the case. PWM fans only work when they receive a PWM signal. Three pin fans are always DC voltage and better suited for most applications. Can be powered by 5, 7, 12 or variable voltage between 5 and 12 for speed control.

This will give you those 3 voltages

AC to DC Adapter - 110V AC to 12V DC Converter w/ Standard 4 Pin (5000mA Max)
