2400MHz RAM. Showing lower then 1800MHz

Hello guys

In my system I have installed 16GB 2400MHz G.Skill Trident RAM. When I boot my system it shows that my RAM is only running on around 1800MHz.

Is there a problem whit my RAM. Or do I have to change a setting or something?

Mobo, CPU? and what model DRAM - in 2400 they have the Trident X, Snipers RJs, Ares......

You may well be about maxed out, the 8350 is rated to 1866 at 1 stick per channel (and that was based on 4GB sticks so 8GB of DRAM total), I think might try at 2133, 10-10-10-30, 1.65 and the CPU/NB voltage at 1.3 or so

To reach DDR3-2133+, you need to set the DRAM Frequency, and also raise the CPU-NB Voltage to give the CPU memory controller the necessary boost it needs to be stable at a higher frequency than it can natively support. Let us know how it goes!

Try setting manually to 1866 9-10-10-30, DRAM voltage 1.65, CPU/NB voltage 1.3

Thx for the quick message. I just found the option D.O.C.P in my UEFI/BIOS and set the profile to DDR3-2400MHz. Now it is showing in my POST screen that my RAM is running on 2400MHz. But the question is. How can I test it if it's true?

I did a benchmark test with AIDA64 Extreme Edition and this where the results. Can one of the memory experts tell me if these are the right values for 2400MHz ram. Or close to it.

Run a memory benchmark test like AIDA64 to see the effective frequency, DDR3-xxxx

Or download a program like CPU-z, look in the memory tab, it will show you the DRAM Frequency, but it is the real frequency so it will be half DDR3-xxxx, so DDR3-2400 it will show ~1200MHz.

Ah, never mind, you figured it out. The DRAM Frequency is correct, but the timings are off. Try manually setting them in BIOS, or check to see why they are on those values.

The timing is probebly off because I was listening to music in the background. I will make another test to see if it will be better with no (or almost none) programs running. Il let you know after the test.

I did the benchmark test again and tried to close as much as possible. But not a big improvement in results. I marked it with green and red what was better this time and worse.

Also I looked up benchmark test from other people, for example Hardware.Info.

As you can see at the latency, this one is WAY better then mine. So what should I change to make the latency better?

Any idea what rig those settings are done with - I ask because you will often see much better latency on Intel rigs over AMD as Intel has much stronger MC (memory controller)s

Try to adjust the timings and the system should perform slightly better.

When comparing speeds and such, you need to know exactly what hardware is being used. Different mobo, CPU, etc. can have a drastic difference in results.

I had to change a setting in the BIOS. Now it works fine
