Old Motherboard, New CPU?

So for the past several months I've been working on heavily upgrading an average-ended Lenovo pc I bought at the store around 2011. I installed a GTX 660 several months ago and it's been working perfectly. However I recently purchased an i7 3770K to replace the i3 it came with and have been trying to install it with a good deal of trouble. The only other thing I haven't replaced yet is the stock Lenovo motherboard.

The first time I fitted in the new i7 and heatsink fan, I booted everything up to hear 4 short beeps and see no display on the monitor. After a long while of messing with wires, connections, and retrying, I was worried that the motherboard may have broken so I decided to revert back to the old i3 and old heatsink, where everything booted up as normal and I had perfect display.

I haven't attempted to install the i7 again yet, but I've started to wonder if maybe it just won't be compatible, but it does match the same socket as the motherboard(LGA1155). There also really aren't any BIOS updates available from the Lenovo support website for this pc. The newest update is from way back in late 2010, and considering that the i7 3770K was released after 2012, could this new CPU still work with this old motherboard? Or would I have to buy a completely new board?

You have the answer. Also, check with the manufacture Mobo to see their specs on supporting CPU/GPU/RAM before you buy the parts.

Thanks, but I'm just a tad bit confused now, you mean that the answer is it WON'T be compatible, or that it will be because it has the same socket? Also, the motherboard is just a cheap factory one Lenovo put in. All it says on it is "Lenovo" and I can't even find a model number on it. Even CPU-Z can't identify it.

From CPU-Z:

Model
LENOVO To be filled by O.E.M.

BIOS
LENOVO - DPKT15A - 02/25/2011

CPU Socket
Socket 1155 LGA

North Bridge
Intel Sandy Bridge rev 09

South Bridge
Intel H67 rev B3
