Hi guys, I found a few similar threads but none that specifically addressed my problem so I thought i'd ask. Basically I got a brand new PC today, but much to my surprise about 5-10 minutes into playing skyrim on ultra the computer shut itself off, then I tried again and it did the same about 10 minutes into gaming. I figured it may be a PSU/overheating issue of some kind so ran a furmark burn in test, sure enough, at around 70 degrees Celsius it happened again. I googled it and apparently 70 degrees should have been fine for my GPU (R9 270X). Could it be a PSU issue or something? my specs are below

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690

Motherboard: Gigabyte H97M-HD3

RAM: 8GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x4GB)

Hard Drive: 2TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s

Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA

Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB

Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio

Internet: Wireless 802.11N 300Mbps MIMO PCI card

Case: Corsair Carbide Spec-03

PSU: 550W Corsair VS

EDIT: I'm now starting to think perhaps my CPU is overheating, although that is odd because it's only when I game it shuts down, this is why I think it may be my cpu....

It just crashed when playing Prison Architect now too (a much less GPU, and I assumed CPU intensive game) but took a while longer, definitely a PSU issue? should I just bite the bullet and buy another PSU?

Try playing or doing anything with only the onboard graphics, take out the GPU from the system. To rule out being the GPU what could be faulty, I am still quite sure it is the PSU.
