I am thinking about upgrading my asus z87 rog hero to a newer z97 motherboard. but I am concerned about how high up on the motherboard the ram slots will be. because I have a corsair h100i and I only have about 1/4mm in between my ram and the corsair h100i 120mm fan. do all z87 and z97 motherboards have the ram slots located at the same exact spot on the motherboard ? or do some z87 and z97 motherboards have ram slots a little closer to the top edge of the board then others ?

They will be slightly off-set to the right or the left, but the same height.. if z87 works for you, z97 will. Worst case, get some crucial ballistix low profile or corsair vengeance low profile. The 1/4 mm should be enough. It also depends on the specific motherboard. It is not a set standard where to place it.

it's not because of the size of the ram its my case that does not support my corsair h100i if the ram slots are to high up on the motherboard . with my asus z87 rog hero there is about a 1/4 mm of space between the corsair h100i default fans and my ram . any way I found a solution . I am going to have to get slim 120mm fans
