So basically, I don't plan on getting an aftermarket cooler so I don't plan on overclocking to much. However, I want an i5 processor that will out perform the fx 8320 but needs to be cheaper than the i5 4670k i originally planned on getting. Should I just stick with the fx 8320 and get that or should I get an i5. My system is this:
Mobo- gigabyte 970a (for fx 8320) or Gigabyte LGA 155 Z77-D3H (for i5)
CPU- N/a
GPU r9 290 tri-x
ram-8gb
so could you pelase tell me
1) will an i5 really affect the performance of this system in battlefield 4? (I play a lot of bf4)
2) What i5 should I get, I dont want to waste money on an i5 with overclockable features i wont really utilise.
3)I do plan on upgrading to a r9 290 crossfire in the future, will both of these processors bottleneck that configuration? Or just the 8320?

1) By affect, the i5 will be able to handle BF4 very well if that's what you mean
2) You should get the Xeon E3 1230 V3 ( an i7 without integrated graphics) or the i5 4440 as a cheaper alternative.
3) No, doubt an 8320 OCed would bottleneck it either.

So an 8320 wouldn't be enough?
Also a Xeon E3 1220 V3 is an i7!? I looked it up but I see no mention of an i7 in there

What socket does the Xeon E3 1220 V3 use?

Sorry, I meant the Xeon E3 1230 V3. The 8320 would probably bottleneck it on some games, really depends what game you want to play. Depending on the game it could use an overclock, and then you would need to get an aftermarker CPU cooler to keep the temps low while OCing. It's a decent choice if you are on a limited budget.

The Xeon's socket is LGA 1150.

A cheaper alternative would be the 4690, but for $25 more you can basically get the equivalent of the i7 4770 for $250.

infact scrap the Xeon E3 1230 V3 idea, that's way too expensive. What is the Xeon E3 1220 V3 like compared to other i5 cpu's?

Similar performance, just a few frames above it in newer games.

If it's out of your budget go for a I5 4690. For a bit less go with the cheapest i5 4xxx.
