Hello, just got my L5420 to replace my e5400 that was running 13,5*240 (3240).
http://ark.intel.com/products/33929/Intel-Xeon-Processor-L5420-12M-Cache-2_50-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB.

My board is an ECS G31TM7 1.0 http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=897&MenuID=16

I already bios updated and stuff and i'm running fine the xeon at 7,5*360 ->2700mhz

I want to know how far I can go since I can't raise voltage nor multiplier on this board. Just FSB increases.

Am I already running it overclocked (360QDR?) The board FSB is 1333mhz.

I Have 2*2GB 800Mhz 5-5-5-18 (Kreton Corp)
XFX HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 850/1200mhz
Samsung 840 ssd 120GB
WD 320GB satall HD
OCZ 500w 80 plus modular power supply
Case is small but side/main door is opened.

There is no way around it, it's a crapy board from an office computer that just became my gaming machine back in 2010. I'll still replace the VGA and add a 3rd party cooler to the cpu, but for now it will have to deal with the stock intel one (should be rated for 65w tdp)

The Xeon is a 50w tdp chip, will it make my life easier?
Thanks in advance!

After using Sandra (free version) i found the temps to be already high at 86 celsius max when pushing 100% on all 4 cores for around 5 minutes.

Memory intensive tests resulted in blue screen. I lowered the Ram on setup to 667mhz. Found out that it is now at +-350ddr. Blue screen is gone.

Of course that at normal usage the temps were better, but still high at around 80-82 max. Average temps are around 72-76 celsius. when multitasking and >60 when iddling (at 2160 mhz).

So... How about a good cooler? Could i push it to 3GHZ? That would mean 7.5*400mhz

Well, no one answered, but since the stock cooler was not able to keep the cpu cool enough i just bought a CoolerMaster Hyper 101. It was the only cheap, yet effective cooler i could find on a quick search here in Brazil. I tried to use the cpu to convert videos from 1080p to 854x480 x264 mp4; i was using Any Video Converter (this one can use at least 4 cores and the GPU openCl/CUDA). After some/several minutes at 100% on all cores the cpu as at 92oC (197oF). With the Hyper 101 i was able to go from 7,5*360=2700 to 7,5*380=2850mhz; the temps at the same load are now at 80oC/176oF max. This means that at gaming my temps are around 70oC/158oF. Not that great but quite ok. The case side/main door is still open since we use earphones on this one. I'll try to push further on this one only if i feel the need. That means i bouth a "q9550" for U$39,00 +8,00, not bad. The q9550 sells for some U$150,00 around here(don't ask me why). I just though that, being a 50w TDP this would run cooler than that.
