Hello everyone,
I recently finished my first PC build. My friend lent me his TP-Link wireless adapter, and I was able to connect to my wireless network, no problem. Yesterday I did a clean install of Windows 7 and bought a Belkin N600 DB USB adapter, so I could give my friend his TP-Link back. I installed the Belkin software and inserted the adapter. I was able to connect to my wireless network, but I can't actually get online. I just get stuck at "waiting for (site.com)..." or "connecting to (site.com)...". This goes on indefinitely. Drives me nuts because the other adapter worked without a hitch. I'll post my build below.

Mobo: MSI Z87M Gaming
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB)
Video Card: EVGA 02G-P4-3757-KR
PSU: Corsair CX500M
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460

Thanks in advance for your replies.

is it getting an IP address? If you open Network and Sharing center does it say your are connected to the internet?

It does say I'm connected to the internet. Also, after some troubleshooting (power cycle the router, flush DNS cache, etc.) I can get to some sites with the Belkin, but it is slow as molasses (running uphill, no less!). I tried replacing it with my friend's TP-Link, and it works fine. It runs better in a USB slot on the front of the machine than in the back, so that's just a signal issue. I think my best bet is probably just to bite the bullet and return the Belkin, and replace it with something that works. Any recommendations?

Yes. And honestly. Get a TP-Link. They are pretty much all i get for my clients. We get the TL-WN722N which is nice because it has an atenna on the back. Its only N150 though but as long as you aren't streaming HD or trasfering files it won't make a difference. What does your router support anyways?

I have no idea what my router supports. I'll level with you: I'm pretty much completely now to most of this stuff. My previous computer was a nice simple laptop with a built in wireless thing that never gave me a single problem from the first time I turned it on.

Anyways...
Funny enough, I actually had the TL-WN722N open in another tab when I read your post. Is it worth it to spend the extra 5 bucks to get the N300 version? My PC is mostly for gaming. I'm not streaming HD but I suppose I'd like the option to in the future. I do like those antennae. I'm a floor below the router so those should help.

Yea the antennae will help a LOT. Thats why we get those now and not the 10 dollar version with out the antennae. If you want the N300 go for it. They should be good too. I would just get a USB Extension (Which i'm sure the TP Links come with them) and just get it higher off the ground and that should help.

And what model is your router?

Ok yea it looks like its a Wireless N Router. If you use the USB and it is howing its connected faster than 54 Mbps then its wireless N. Most likely a N300

Okay thanks for your help, man. This is the second time in as many days that someone from Tom's has helped me out. I figure I'll order the TP-Link tonight or tomorrow and hang onto my friend's til it arrives.
