Well I just upgraded to a 7870 gfx card and it requires 2 6 pin connectors but all I can see is 1 4 pin connector from my psu. Is there anything I can do to fix this without getting a new psu?

More about : pin connector pin

If the PSU lacks the proper connections its usually a good sign it needs to be replaced. To make sure I'll need to know the make and model of the PSU.

is your psu modular or not modular? With a modular psu you can add an extra (or should be able to) PCI cables to it.

Yea you need a new PSU as well. that single 4 Pin (2x2) Is probably the 12V for the motherboard which won't work.

My bet would be if its an unused connector it most likely a 4-pin molex as the 4 pin cpu power is probably being used.

Yea i would figure as much too BUT some PSU's that have the 4+4 pin i know some of them are two full seperate cables and then you connect them together but they seem seperate (I only see this on Cheap PSU's though). Usually they are connected together or have sleaving over it to prevent that or its a 8 pin and then has an extra inch or two that goes to a 4 pin ect as i'm sure you know but i have seen a few that are seperate like that.

The 4 pin is an extra molex, the psu is a thermaltake 700w v2.2, and I'm not sure how to tell if it's modular or not modular.

Modular looks similar to this

Its where you only plug in what cables you need. Your PSU SHOULD have PCIe 6/8 pins to power that GPU. Just got to see if maybe those cables weren't plugged in and if they weren't if you or who ever built it still have them around.

Yeah unfortunately I got it from newegg. I can call them and see if they kept some or something but from what I can see I can't fin any extra connectors around it.

If it's a thermaltake TR2 700w then you definitely need a new PSU and you should be thankful the system is still running and not worthless dead block. The TR2 series are known to do that. Beside that its semi modular and the cables needed for the card should be in the box the PSU came in. But I would highly suggest not using that PSU any more, the longer you run that PSU the higher the risk that it will fail and the tr2's don't like dying alone

Well that is the psu that I have. I already bought 2 new parts so I'm thinking I might as well just buy a new power supply. Do you have any recommendations for somewhat cheap that isn't very difficult to replace?
