Just as the title indicates, I am unable to connect my laptop to an unsecured network. My iphone connects without an issue as does other peoples laptops & phones (varying os's). I did not have any issue joining my secured network at home. I am the administrator of my pc. The network is displayed via 3 access points, one for each floor of the hotel. There is no "terms of use" page, it's just connect and use. To clarify above, users do not connect to the router, instead, we connect to access points. I have been racking my head trying to figure this out, so any solid help would be appreciated. Thank you.
- Pc particulars (Sager x7200):
Fresh Win7 pro 64bit install
Killer wireless N-1103 (updates drivers)
NO anti-virus installed
- what I've tried:
Reset winsock (CMD prompt)
Reset netsh (CMD prompt)
Reset TCP/IP (CMD prompt)
"Clean" boot
Safe mode w/networking
Netsh firewall "offline"
Windows Firewall OFF (domain, public, private)
Restart all 3 access points and router
- delete all saved wireless networks
- uninstalled WNIC through device settings
- self induced acute subdural hematoma via wall (lol)
- CANNOT DO (regardless of why)
Connect wired
Buy wireless dongle
Tether phone for internet
Use another phone/laptop

try accessing the control panel then network and internet then network and sharing centre then change adapter settings to the left. Right click wireless network connection select properties highlight internet protocol version 4 and select properties. make sure everything is set to obtain automatically.

if that does not work then you might have to tweak the wireless card settings. in the same menu as the internet protocol 4 at the top should be your wireless card. hit configure and look up the default settings from your iphone.

It didn't work.
I tried the IPv4 config, and from the network info I can gather off my phone I can enter the IP (top top block of config page), the subnet mask (top block) and the DNS IP (bottom block). Windows called it "preferred".
Sorry, I was gone, I was working.

UPDATE

I visited the library (also unsecured) and connected perfectly. Ok now I'm stumped. Again, other peoples laptops (Mac and pc) can connect, I can't. My phone can. So I know it's not a hardware flaw, but maybe it's incompatible? (The logic side of me screams "that dosnt make sense").

This is quite perplexing. You would have to open up the router settings to get a full picture of what is going on here but obviously it sounds to me that you won't be able to do that. Hmm I can only think that your wifi card is somehow involved. Might be because of 20mhz or 40mhz channels, fat channel is enabled (if it is try disabling it), or perhaps your MTU is too low. Open command prompt and type in netsh int ipv4 show subint. It should be either 1492 or 1500 anything lower and it might cause some problems.

Also type in netsh int tcp show global in command prompt as well and compare it against these default settings http://techibee.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/showautotuning.png

Since I was able to connect I downloaded drivers for my USB wifi antenna and it can connect to the router the wifi chip can't. Certainly perplexing. I tried both suggestions. 1500 and all default values are prevalent.
