Can I break off the RAM clips?

I have a really big and unusual problem.
I have a microatx board, and am trying to install a GTX 780 on it.
The problem is, the PCI-E slot is too close to the RAM slots, so the GPU won't fit in the slot because the RAM clips keep interfering with the top PCB of the GPU. I will have to break off the RAM clips and see if I can fit the GPU, or else I will need a new motherboard. Will the ram still work, or will it be too loose?

And yes, the slot for the GPU IS correct. They are both PCI-Express 3.0 x16

Hi Sharks445
its not the recommended thing to do , but i guess you can try , your ram should still stay seated as long as it is pressed in firmly and is still held by the
clips on the other end , if it does not work then you can get your new mobo anyway
EDIT , is it possible to cut the very tips off with a pair of side or wire cutters ?

The RAM will still work, but it may be more likely to fall out.

It probably isn't a good idea, although my old pentium board worked fine even when one of the clips snapped in half.

You could try trimming the tabs on the clips so they aren't blocking the GPU?
