Hi,
I recently bought an SSD and I need to transfer all my data to it. I have the Asus Vivobook SC400CA. I was wondering if it would be better to migrate my current hard drive to the new SSD or to do a fresh install of windows. If you reccomend a fresh install how would I go about reinstalling the OS, I have no Activation code, The computer came pre activated. If you recommend migrating, what software should I use. My current HDD is GPT btw.

reinstall is recommended,
atleast on desktop pc's you can transfer it via backup programs... i did it once with acronis true image,
one thing is recommended tho - to make sure the SATA controller in bios was set to AHCI mode when the windows was originally installed on it -
windows installation remembers this and fails to load the appropriate driver on boot and gets bluescreen if you try do this otherwise,
an SSD requires AHCI mode for it to work properly (TRIM for example wouldn't work otherwise)
however acronis i think can actually adress this issue but thats a high risk road to take,
but a modern computer should have SATA set to AHCI mode already... but i would try to access bios to make sure either way.
i also was battling bluescreens afterwards for a few hours ... i think my solution was to go into safe mode and somehow windows magically repaired this problem on its own...
also since this is a laptop i would just seek a way to do a fresh install to save myself the trouble
