When you are playing the game, each frame has to be loaded from the hard disk SEPERATELY. There could be over 10,000 frames for a 1/4th of a scene. With that many frames to load, that can put a lot of stress on the hard disk, thus causing the hard disk to fail sooner, especially with that many frames to load. The hard disk could fail during a game. Think about the stuff on the hard disk. If it fails, your data is gone. You could get 2 hard disks, one small, low capacity drive for the OS, and another one for everything else that is a 1TB drive. With that setup, if the OS drive fails, you don't lose EVERYTHING.

Can't really afford an SSD at the moment, don't really want one anyway. If I were to switch to a 4770K or 4790K, how would it go?

I found it locally for half the price, seems to good to refuse. Would 2 Kepler cards be better?

I see your point, I may consider an SSD after I work out the rest of the build.

Well, nice you found a good deal :) the 690 is really hard to find these days, but it's equivalent to ~2 770s or ~2 280Xes

Yeah, there's a tech place near me that's shutting down, so they have 50% off everything. I was surprised to find one too. What kind of frames could I expect from it?

Nice, I'm going to have it locked at 60 (since I'm so used to it) so that's perfect. Can I ask one more thing of you? How much do you think the original rig I posted would cost? I want to see if I got a good deal (also pretend that the GTX690 was at full price for reference.)

That system is overkill if you just intend to play battlefield 4 lol, however if you can afford it, go for it. I've run battlefield on a HD 7950 (not overclocked) at 40-60 fps (ultra, 1080p).
