Hi, this is my rig:

MB: Asus Sabertooth X79
PSU: 1000W
RAM 4 modules of 4Gb at 1866Mhz
GPU: Sli 770
CPU: Intel Core i7-3820

I am thinking about upgrading to Intel Core i7-4930K as it has 6 cores unlocked and more cache.

Any advice on this (don't care about the money)

Thanks

I have the same temptation to go from my 3930K to the 4930K simply for the PCIe 3.0, but the fact is we probably are not going to see much of a difference in performance (even if you'd be getting the added cache). No GPUs are even saturating the 16 lanes of PCIe 2.0 we have available for two GPUs (other combos are available too such as 16/8/8 with this chipset). I don't think you're going to realize too much advantage going from 4 to 6 cores unless you're doing video with a lot of effects / 3D or music production with a lot of VIs / effects.

Personally, I'm going to wait for the 2nd gen of the 5xxxK enthusiast chips / architecture. At that time PCIe 3.0 will be closer to necessary for the best graphics and performance. They may...

They may even be pushing PCIe 4.0 and SATA IV at that time. At that time, with a G-sync monitor, I might be a single GPU guy so I might be going mainstream and back to a 4-core processor myself. But who knows... With the 5-series processors, 6 cores or 8 cores may be the next mainstream core counts.

Unless you have a very specific need with regard to the 4930K, I'd say skip it.

Just letting you know how I was thinking this through myself...

Thanks, yes I agree, but at least your 3930K is unlocked. Mine is not... And maybe 4930K with OC will make the difference... :( Don't know what to do :'(

hehehe Thanks

Are you trying to increase performance for reasons outside of gaming? If so, I could understand.

I overclocked my 3930K to 4.3 for about a half hour. When I realized the performance while gaming was not perceivable, I put it back to stock speed and haven't touched it since.

You're not getting good performance out of the 2 770s as they are?
