How can I scan video games for disc read errors?

I recently started buying and selling used video games online, and I've had an issue with some of the games I've bought have had disc read errors. I don't have all of the consoles necessary to test the games, and even if I did I wouldn't have the time to test them beyond just seeing if they boot up. Is there any software or a device I could get that would tell me if there are any errors on the disc?

Does anyone know how I could do this? I've read that I could extract an ISO image of the game on to my computer and then use a program to verify the integrity of the ISO file. Can anyone confirm that this would work? and how much time it might take?

I'm aware that some of the things I'm asking about may be used for pirating games, since I actually found this website through a thread of someone supposedly wanting to learn to do that, but I want to make it clear that that is not at all my intention and I am simply looking for a quick and simple way to thoroughly test video games of all types.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to efficiently test video games for errors please let me know. I realize that most people will say I should simply hold it up to a light and look for scratches, but many of the games I buy and sell are fairly scratched and I don't know how to tell for sure which ones are scratched beyond usability. I'm open to any and all input.
