I built my own computer. The specs are below:

FX-8350
ASRock Fatality 990fx mobo
x2 r9-270x xfx
xfx 750 80 plus gold power supply

After I installed my second r9-270x and after playing BF3 on Ultra preset, my GPU temps got in the low 80 degrees. Soon after, it had my den smelling like burned plastic. So my question is, is it my GPU or PSU?

We're not there to sniff around your rig, this is something you are going to have to findyourself but I would begin with the PSU since it was put under nearly twice the load its used to.

Please let us know which PSU you have, maybe we can tell you if its a quality unit or something you now need to replace.

My PSU is the following:
XFX PRO 750W 80 plus Gold Black Edition Single Rail Power Supply with Full Modular Cables ATX 750 Energy Star Certified Power Supply, P1750BBEFX

It is supposed to be a quality PSU. HW Monitor had my graphic cards at up to 84 degrees! My GPU then throttled itself down to 77 degrees (my FPS in BF3 went from 80-90 fps to 50-60 FPS). I also heard a LOUD SCREECHING sound coming from the fans. I was not sure if it was the PSU fan or my new r9 270x fans. I am leaning towards it being the PSU fans. Even though my GPU got that hot, the only performance difference was the dropped FPS like I stated, my PC stilled functioned fine. The fx-8350 was at a cool 41 degrees the entire time. I did install the Creative Sound Blaster Z PCIe Sound Card. Is it normal to smell burning plastic/wiring as you "break in" a component? Or should I get a higher wattage PSU?

Thanks
